Šumahovo sedlo - Jesenik (Jesenikov vrh) (via Veliki and Pikov vrh)

Access to the starting point:
a) Drive to Mežica, then continue driving towards Črna na Koroškem. When Mežica ends, you will quickly reach a crossroads where you will turn right towards Breg and CŠOD Mežica. From the crossroads, start climbing, and at the hamlet of Zgornji Breg, go left towards Marholče. There is some more climbing and then you reach Šumahovo sedlo, where the Šumah Cross is located. Park in a suitable place near the cross.
b) From Črna na Koroškem, from the village of Mušenik, turn left onto the road towards Pikovy. At a small crossroads continue straight ahead (right Igerčevo), along the road which continues along the valley, and at the next crossroads continue left in the direction of the forest road to Koča na Pikovem (right footpath towards the Cottage at Pikovem). The road climbs for a while, then mainly crosses the slopes to the right, and in between it leads us past a couple of turnoffs to the nearby farmsteads. From the junction where the road branches slightly to the left to Koča na Pikovem, continue slightly to the right, then past a few more turnoffs to farmsteads and further crossing to reach Šumahovo sedlo, where you park at a suitable place by a sign.

Path description:
From Šumahovo sedlo take the wide cart track which branches westwards from the saddle. A little further on, the rather steep cart track splits, and we continue to the left, on the wider cart track, which then leads us via another serpentine to the Big Peak, where the transmitters are located, and on the nearby object there is a registration box with a registration book.
Before the transmitters on the right, there is a path which descends crosswise to a small saddle to the west of Veliki vrh, and from the nearby crossroads continue right in the direction of Pikov vrh (slightly to the left of Pikove jame). The path continues with some ups and downs, but mostly follows a wooded ridge. The trail, which is not marked, only at a few crossroads it is marked, is then followed to the lookout tower at Pikov Peak.
Go around the tower on the left and then start descending through the forest. At a small crossroads go right, then at a wooden cross you will reach the marked trail Pikovo - Mežica, which you follow to the right.
You will quickly reach a small crossroads, where you continue to the left (straight ahead on one of the paths to Mežica), and at the next crossroads go right in the direction of Mežica (straight ahead on the Vrh Šteng preval).
From the crossroads, climb quickly to a small pass where the path to Mežica descends down to the right, and we continue straight on to an unmarked path that begins to climb the south ridge of Jesenika. Further on, the path, which mostly follows the ridge, is more difficult to follow due to the many fallen trees resulting from the windstorm in December 2017. The route joins the cart track higher up, where it is also laid.
The track initially leads along a ridge, then turns into a small valley, and when it ends, a fainter track leads up to the nearby summit.
Šumahovo sedlo - Veliki vrh 15 minutes, Veliki vrh - Pikov vrh 40 minutes, Pikov vrh - Jesenik 50 minutes.
