Svete Višarje / Monte Lussari

Description of peak:
Svete Višarje is a pilgrimage site for Slavs, Germans and Romans. As early as the 16th century, the mountain was called the God's Way of the Three Nations, but today it is called the God's Way of Europe. The church dedicated to the Queen of Višara was renovated in 2000. Only a few years later, a new circular cable car was built on Svete Višarje. The cable car is now also available to the sick and elderly. The cableway was built to serve the needs of the winter ski centre. There are many ski slopes in the surroundings of Višarje, which offer idyllic skiing. Višarje is not only a pilgrimage centre, as the view and the restaurants attract many tourists to the summit. Mountaineers like to choose the summit of Kamnitý lovec, an hour and a half away, which offers a beautiful view of the highest peaks of the western Julian Alps. Holy Masses are held at 10, 11 and 12 on weekdays, and at 15:00 on Sundays and public holidays.
