Access to the starting point:
a) Drive to Škofja Loka, then continue driving towards Žire. After Poljany, you will arrive in Srednja vas-Poljane (the road sign only says Srednja vas), where the route described above starts in the middle of the village. There are no parking spaces at the starting point.
b) Drive to Gorenjska vas in the Poljanska valley, then continue to Škofja Loka. You will soon arrive in Srednja vas-Poljane, where the route described above starts at the crossroads in the middle of the village. There are no parking spaces at the starting point.
Path description:
From the main road, signs for the Church of the Holy Cross direct you to a side road that continues northwards and leads you between the houses. Just a little further on, go right, again in the direction of St. Križ, and a few steps further on, at an unmarked crossroads, go slightly left. The road then climbs along a small stream, and at a newer house the road turns slightly to the right and crosses to the other side of the stream, from which we then move away. The road then passes through a narrow lane wood, and at the foot of the meadows the road turns right again and climbs cross-country to a small hamlet, where it splits.
A slightly shorter path continues along the tarmac road, and a footpath a few minutes longer continues through the woods in the yard by the marker.
Continue along the road, which quickly leads to the forestry at Sv. Križ, from where you climb up to a small saddle, where you join the footpath and the path from Poljan or Dobje.
Here, go right and, passing the chapel, climb up to the nearby church of St. Križ, enjoying the views of the surrounding countryside.
Description and pictures refer to the situation in January 2021.
