Access to the starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway, take the Lesce exit and follow the road towards Bled and on to Bohinjska Bistrica. Continue driving towards Lake Bohinj (Ribčev laz), at which you will come to a crossroads, where you will continue straight along the left (south) side of the lake in the direction of Ukanec and the Savica waterfall. Follow this road to the bottom station of the funicular to Vogel, then buy a ticket and take the cable car to the top station, which is the starting point for our tour, unless we shorten it further (by 30 min) by taking the four-seater to Orlov glave. The chairlift is also open in the summer season.
Path description:
Walk a few hundred metres past the Vogel Ski Hotel, past the Merjasec mountain hut and down the ski slope past Storeč station and the four-seater chairlift leading to the Eagle's Heads. If you continue on foot (chairlift transport is also an option), follow the path under the quad chairlift to the upper station of the Eagle's Heads. Here, continue under the chairlift leading to the upper station of Šija. When the trail reaches the edge of the Šija - Last Vogel ski slope (just before the steepest section of all the slopes on the Vogel ski slope), turn right and cross the ski slope and continue in a westerly direction under the slopes of Šija. Soon you will reach a crossroads where you can continue along the upper ridge path (difficult) or the slightly longer lower easy path, which meanders aimlessly in all directions until you join the path from the upper station of the double chairlift "Zadnji Vogel". Bear left and you will come to a crossroads where the signpost for Vogel points up to the left. The path starts to climb here and leads over a scree slope to the Vrata or Vratca notch, which is the second lowest point between Primorska and Gorenjska, from Mangart to Črna Prsta (after Vršič). At the notch - a little earlier we join the ridge path from Šija - a view of Primorska opens up. Continue right along the ridge, which is steep and challenging, but well protected. The path then crosses the slopes and leads to the crossroads for Vogel, from which you continue straight on towards Konjski sedlo, which is reached by a scenic and gentle path. From the saddle, continue downhill following the "Komna" signs. The path crosses the slopes on the western side of Bohinjski Migovec (1896 m). Soon we are at the crossroads again. Here we continue left (right Komna) in the direction of the Hut on mountain pasture Razor.
After a short crossing, the path leads us past a small valley where we step off the slopes of Bohinjski Migovec onto the rockier slopes of Vrch nad Škrbino. Here the path turns slightly to the right and leads us over a small rough scree slope to a small ravine, after which we enter a very short lane of dwarf pines. Above dwarf pines, the path climbs steeply for a short time, then lays down and crosses a steep scree slope to the right (this part is usually still snow-covered in early summer, so snowshoes and snowshoes are compulsory then). The path continues on the left, passing a small crater, which is snow-covered all year round. On the other side of the conte, the path starts to climb steeply towards Škrbina, which is reached after about 15 minutes of further ascent. When we get to Škrbina, we have a beautiful view of the coastal side, and at the crossroads we continue left along the south side of the ridge towards Vrha nad Škrbino (straight down Koča na mountain pasture Razor, Tolminski Kuk on the right).
The path then leads us along a steep, slightly crumbly slope to the steep northern slopes of Vrch nad Škrbino. Here we come to the first steeply ascending rocks. At a higher level, turn right and, with the help of some scrambles, climb back up to the south side of the ridge. On the south side, the path climbs steeply along the cliffs a few more times, and then gradually becomes less difficult. There is a 10-minute or so walk along the scenic ridge towards the summit. A few metres below the summit, an easier path with mountain pasture Razor joins from the right.
Then descend along the ridge to the east. The path is not marked but is clearly visible. The steepest sections are located shortly below Vrh nad Škrbino (at most partially difficult difficulty). The trail is a real pleasure thanks to the view of the coastal and Bohinj side. The trail then drops below the height of the Meje, so in the last part of the trail it is necessary to climb again to reach the summit.
The return is possible east along the ridge via Rušnate Peak to the Globoko Pass.
