Access to the starting point:
a) First drive to Kranjska Gora, then continue driving towards Rateče. Turn left at Podkoren, and after the bridge over the Sava Dolinka River, join the cycle road, which you can follow to the right, and then you can only drive to the nearby parking lot, where you park.
b) Via Border crossing Rateče, enter Slovenia and then drive towards Kranjska Gora. Turn right at Podkoren, and after the bridge over the Sava Dolinka River, join the cycle road, which you can follow to the right, and you can only go to the nearby parking lot, where you park.
Path description:
From the parking lot, continue along the cycle path towards Rateče, and soon the path from Zelenec will join us from the right. Continue through the lane of a forest, crossing a torrent, and when you leave the forest, you will see a pasture and some wooden huts on your left. Leave the cycle path here and follow cart track to a nearby hut, and from the hut continue slightly to the right towards the forest slopes. The way ahead takes you along the edge of the forest, then the path becomes more distinct, and at the crossroads follow the signs for Planica. The trail continues to lead us through some hay fields, from which we get a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, and at the crossroads we continue to follow the signs for Planica and Tamar. Higher up, the trail leads past a small ski slope and then to the Planica Home, where you continue to the right and walk through the car parks to the Planica Nordic Centre.
From Planica, follow the dirt road to Dom v Tamarju, before the road splits into two before entering the forest. Continue along the road slightly to the right in the direction of the footpath to Tamar (slightly to the left is a carriageway, but closed to public traffic).
The path continues along the road which passes the last car park of NC Planica and turns into a forest, which is converted into a cross-country skiing track in winter. The ascent is along a winding road, mostly through the forest, but when the path leaves the forest, there are peepholes along the way with signs indicating what can be seen. Higher up, the forest often thins out or is abandoned for a while, opening up beautiful views of the mountains rising above Planica and Tamar. When we are quite close to Dom v Tamarju, we get a wonderful view of Jalovec and the trail splits.
Continue slightly to the left (slightly to the right is the source of the Nadiža spring) and a minute or so further on, join the carriage road and pass the chapel to reach the mountain lodge.
