Passo Stalle / Staller Sattel - Croda Rossa / Rote Wand (path 7)

Access to the starting point:
Through the Karavanke Tunnel, along the motorway past Spital, then along the Drava to Lienz. Cross the Drava in Lienz and take the roundabout (first exit) in the route Ainet, Schlaiten, St. Johann im Walde, Kienburg. In Huben turn left - road L 25 (the sign for the Staller Pass is not very visible). Go past Hopfgarten, St. Veit and St. Jakob and Defereggen to Erisbach, where turn left (main road) for the Passo Stalle / Staller Sattel.

Path description:
The tour starts at the historical monument at the Passo Stalle / Staller Sattel pass, on the Austrian side. After an easy climb and a small jump, you reach the first flat area (signposts). There is a slight descent, then continue along the valley (with a slope full of flowers on the left in summer, and a slope descending into the bed of a mountain stream on the right). Soon you will reach a crossroads, keep to the route signs. The path turns slowly to the right, as does the valley, which opens up more and more. The only sound is the loud gurgling of the mountain stream and the singing of birds. It is then that we see our destination for the first time. Shortly after the signpost, we cross a shallow stream bed and continue towards the top of the mountain. The terrain becomes increasingly rocky (reddish, still some snow at the end of June, sloping). Below the summit there is a small saddle and we climb it on a hard and compacted gravel slope (caution). From the saddle, it is only a few metres to the summit.
