MHE Zali potok - Zavetišče na planini Šija

Access to the starting point:
Drive to Tržič, then drive through Dovžanovo gorge and Dolina to Jelendol. In Jelendol at Borna manor house, continue straight on, then follow the main road to the next forest road turn-off to the left, which is located by the Zali potok Hydroelectric Power Station. Park in a suitable place at the crossroads.

Path description:
From the main road, cross Tržiška Bistrica, then pass the MHPP building and continue along a relatively steep forest road. The road continues along the left side of the Zala Stream, a stream with two waterfalls higher up. Higher up, we reach the lower edge of the mountain pasture Zali brook, where the road ends, and we pass the first hut on the right.
The path continues along cart track, choosing the wider cart track at the forks. After a few minutes, a fairly steep cart track joins from the left, passing the first hut on the left, and we continue along cart track to the next hut, which is located on mountain pasture Zali brook.
Continue straight on, and cart track leads into a slightly more sparse forest, where it splits. The recognisably wider cart track turns left and leads to and over a stream, and we continue straight on the steeper cart track. A little higher, when cart track becomes more grassy, we reach the next crossroads where the grassy cart track branches off sharply to the right (an unmarked trail leads along it to mountain pasture Pungrat and Tegoška planina) and we continue straight ahead here as well. Cart track continues higher up and along the stream, and then there are traces of motocross engines on the old and rather eroded cart track. Higher up, cross the view slope and at the end of the above-mentioned section take the right-hand cart track, which climbs more steeply. As you enter the forest a little further on, the cart track ends, and the route is indicated by a well-traced path made by motocross engines. When the forest thins out, the path turns right, then climbs steeply through tall grass and between young spruce trees to a dirt road.
Follow the road to the right for a few paces, then on the left you will see the continuation of the track from the motocross bikes. There is a short steep climb and then you reach cart track, which you follow up to the left. Cart track soon splits, and we take the left-hand one, which descends to a small torrent. Cart track then turns right in a semicircle and gradually starts to disappear. For a short time we can still follow a fainter track, but then we approach the dune of the next forest road, where the track disappears completely, and we climb steeply in a few steps onto the nearby road. The road is reached at a long bend, and we continue along the old cart track, which climbs to the left of a small and overgrown quarry. After a short climb, cart track turns right in a semicircle, and then leads to an overlook slope, from where a fine view opens up. Continue traversing to the right without any significant change in elevation. On the other side of a large old clearing, at a small crossroads, continue left, so that the path gradually turns left. The ascent continues along the same clearing, except that the path continues along an undistinguished ridge, and higher up it passes alongside a pasture fence. After crossing the grazing fence, you come out on a dirt road, and we follow it to the left (right mountain pasture Pungrat). When we reach the road, we climb a little more at first, then start descending gently to the Shelter at mountain pasture Šija, about 20 minutes away.
