Access to the starting point:
Access from Gorenjska: Drive through the Karavanke Tunnel into Austria, then continue to Spittal and on to Lienz (the motorway ends a little after Spittal). We continue along a relatively nice and wide road through the Drava Valley, which leads us into Itali. The road continues past Dobbiaco/Toblach and Brunico/Bruneck. Just after the last-mentioned town, which is passed by a bypass road, we turn left into the Val Badia valley. Continue along the valley past La Vila and Corvara. Then climb over the Passo Campolongo and Passo Pordoi. From Passo Pordoi, descend to the west side of the valley of Val di Fassa. At Pozza di Fassa, turn left at the roundabout towards Val San Nicolo. Follow this road to mountain pasture Malga Crocifisso. From mountain pasture you can follow the road for another kilometre or so and then turn left (signposted Ferrata) over a small bridge and park.

From the coastal side: From Nova Gorica, exit into Itali and continue on the motorway towards Venice/Venezia. At Portogruaro, leave the motorway towards Venice and turn right on the motorway towards Pordenone. At the next motorway junction near Conegliano, turn right towards Belluno. Follow the motorway until you reach the exit for Belluno. When you leave the motorway, you come to a large roundabout, which you leave at the exit for Belluno and Feltre. At the small roundabout in Belluno, turn right towards Agordo. Follow this road until Pozza di Fassa in the Val di Fassa. At Pozza di Fassa, turn right at the roundabout towards Val San Nicolo. Follow this road to mountain pasture Malga Crocifisso. From mountain pasture you can follow the road for another kilometre or so and then turn left (signposted Ferrata) over a small bridge and park.
Path description:
From the starting point, continue left along the road, which climbs through the lane of a forest and soon leads to the ski slope. Continue along the above-mentioned road, which continues along the ski slope, from which you will have beautiful views of the peaks above the Val di San Nicolo.

When the ski slope turns to the left, leave the ski slope road and turn slightly right onto cart track, which leads into the forest. If you miss the crossroads, you can continue along the ski slope, which also leads to the Rifugio Buffaure hut. From the crossroads, follow the cart track, which starts to climb through the forest and soon you will see a game feeder on the right. We continue straight on and cart track becomes a track. The path then turns to the right and then climbs mostly in switchbacks through the forest. The path is marked by red and white waymarks, but these are relatively rare. During the ascent, the path occasionally leads us to short gullies from which we also open up a beautiful view of the surrounding peaks. This route then continues until we emerge from the forest onto grassy slopes which open up to the view of the Rifugio Buffaure hut. The path then turns to the left and there is a final climb up to the hut.

From the hut, continue to the right along a wide, sloping path with a fine view of the Catinaccio (Rosengarten) mountain group. The path quickly leads to a crossroads where you continue to the right along the 613 path, following the signs "Col de Valvacin, Sas d'Adam", and straight ahead to the upper station of the circular cable car.

From the crossroads, walk along the sloping road that runs along the ski slope. Later, the road turns slightly to the right and starts to climb slightly steeper. This path then soon leads to the Rifugio Baita Cuz hut.

From the hut, continue along the road, which turns slightly to the left and starts to climb steeply up the ski slope. Continue along the steep road until you reach the ridge where the top station of the Pala del Geiger cable car is located. Here, for a short time, we also have a view to the north towards the Sassolungo and Sella mountain groups. Continue to the right along the road, which becomes more level as it follows the ridge and then gives way to the right side. The road then soon leads to the Rifugio el Zedron, which is situated at the top of the Col de Valvacin. To reach the top, go around the hut on the right and then, at the ridge where the crossroads are, continue left and, in a few steps, reach the summit.
