Access to the starting point:
From the expressway Razdrto - Nova Gorica take the exit Selo and continue towards the village Dornberk. In the village Dornberk turn left in the direction of Koper and then after 100m turn right towards Trstelj (the turnoff for Trstelj is marked). Follow the road as it climbs up to the parking area on the left side of the road (the parking area is identified by a small chapel located in the middle of the rock, and on top of the rock you can see a small Aljaž's tower).
From the Novogorica side, the village Dornberk can also be reached by passing Šempeter and Volčje Draga.
Path description:
From the parking lot, continue along the road, which will take you to the hamlet of Gora in a few minutes. Behind the last house in the village, the marked path turns right and after a short climb returns to the road. Follow the road for a few minutes to Železna vrata, where you can see the mountain markers. The ascent continues along the wide gently sloping cart track, which quickly leads us under the wires of the power line. Here, leave cart track and continue left along the footpath, which goes into the forest and starts to climb moderately. The steepness then eases and the path leads to unpaved slopes, from which you can see the transmitters at the top of Trstelj. The path then goes into the forest again, where the path from Renč joins us from the right. Continue to the left and after a few more steps you will come out on a worse road, which you follow to the right towards the cottage, which you can already see in front of you.
From the hut, continue towards the summit, following a path that climbs gently through a sparse forest. After a few dozen steps, the path leads us to a minor road, which we follow to the top, enjoying increasingly beautiful views.

V mokrem ni prijetno, saj kar pošteni drsi na kamnih na strmem delu.
Kot zanimivost: S Trstelja je slovenska obala med Trstom in Gradežom. Se pojavijo ???. Poglejte zemljevide ali pa vprasajte oskrbnika - hvala!

Danes na Trstelju s kolesom. Lepa tura za otvoritev kolesarske sezone...če sem že turno smučarsko zaključila  Otok jasnine je bil tik nad vrhom, vse naokoli pa "zabasano" , tako da razgleda ni bilo. Sicer se s tega 643 m visokega kuclja lepo vidi vse od Alp pa do morja.

iskala sem pot čez potok, in ko sem se vračala sem ugotovila da je ta Potok naselje

Ne vem, kako star je opis poti na Trstelj z Železnih vrat oziroma z Gore, vendar je steza od kolovoza, ki jo prečka daljnovod, večino časa precej strma in se kamenje kotali izpod nog, na delno neporaščena pobočja pa pridemo šele malo pred stikom s stezo iz Renč.

Lepa pot. Pot med slikama 5 in 7 je kar dolga in strma, prikazana pa je le s sliko 6. Dejansko hodimo več časa po gozdu, kot je predstavljeno s slikami.

Pot je dobro markirana, pa malce bolj naporna kot sem pričakovala za nek skoraj primorski grič.  V primeru, da bi bilo omenjeno parkirišče zasedeno, je malo naprej na voljo še parkirišče pri lovski koči. Parkirišče pri železnih vratih pa ponuja precej sence (zdaj ko dnevi končno postajajo malo bolj topli).
