Dobrnič - Trebni vrh (via Šahovec)

Access to the starting point:
a) Leave the Ljubljana - Novo mesto motorway at exit Trebnje - west, then continue in the direction of Žužemberk and Dobrniča. When you arrive in Dobrnič, turn left in front of the church into the parking lot next to the cemetery.
b) First drive to Žužemberk, then continue to Trebnje and Dobrnič. When you arrive in Dobrnič, turn left at the crossroads by the church and then immediately right into the nearby cemetery, where you park in the parking lot.

Path description:
From the parking lot we return to the main road, where we continue left to the Pr Lubčku Inn, where we see signs for the Baraga Trail, which direct us to a slightly narrower road that continues between the houses. Dobrnič soon ends, and we continue slightly right at a few small crossroads until we reach the village of Lokve pri Dobrnič.
The way ahead, still following the road, leads us between fields, then through lane woods, where it also climbs steeply and higher up between pastures. Higher up, the path leads us past another cross, after which we arrive in the village of Šahovec. At a crossroads in the middle of the village (there is a traffic mirror at the crossroads), turn left onto a slightly narrower road, which leads you past a few more houses. The village ends quickly, and we follow the road that continues along the field to a small pond, where we leave the road and continue left on a footpath, which is not marked, but is relatively often marked with Baraga's trail signs.
From the pond, turn left and follow the path along the edge of the woods on the cart track, which turns into a wood. The Baraga Trail is fairly easy to follow at first, as it follows cart track or forest logging trail. A little higher up, leave cart track, as the Baraga trail signs direct you to a short part of the trail where the path is more difficult to follow and overgrown, but if you follow the signs carefully you will soon reach another cart track, which continues a moderate ascent. Further on, cart track is further laid and leads us out of the forest to the edge of the village of Vrhtrebnje.
The village is reached near the Church of St James, in front of which you continue to the right towards the 15th meridian and the hunting lodge, which is only a minute's walk away.
From the hunting lodge, continue along the macadam road, which you will soon leave and follow to the left onto the wooded cart track, which leads you up to Trebni vrh.
