Access to the starting point:
Drive to Irschen (Austria). Once in Irschen follow the signs for Leppner Alm. The steep and picturesque road passes numerous houses in the steep terrain. The road eventually leads you through the forest. Expect a macadam road in its final kilometers. There is a parking at the destination and the Bergheimat (Leppner Alm) in the near vicinity.

Path description:
This trail is recomended for a return round trip from Scharnik.

Starting from the parking place, follow the macadam road for a few meters, pass the information tables and cross the small bridge. Immediately after the bridge, head left to the steep trail passing the signposts. After a few minutes, the trail joins with the road where signs direct you left. A few houses appear after a short stroll. Immediately after mind the signs and turn right to a trail. The trail gets steeper and runs through the forest. After a while it reaches mountain pastures and soon after the hut it branches off to the right (mind the signs). The trail then ascends until it merges with the cart track. Turn left before the cart track barrier. In the continuation, the trail traverses several mountain springs and numerous mountain pastures. Eventually, the next signs are reached where the trail continues to the right (if you turn left after a one-minute-walk you will reach the hut Unteralmhütte).

In the continuation, enjoy the trail which opens up while it slowly ascends. The trail crosses a mountain spring and then it reaches a spot with cosy recliners. After 45 minutes of walk (from last signs by the Unteralmhütte) the trail joins with the one from Ochsnerhütte. Continue left and after 30 minutes of a slightly steeper trail turn right (left is Lamnitzsee). Walk up the trail for another 20 minutes and you will reach the Gursgen Törl at 2445 m, where you should turn right. From here the trail follows the ridge all the way to the top. The terrain is not difficult (no scrambling is necessary) but still you may find this part to be the most difficult of all the trail.
