Škabrijel

Description of peak:
Škabrijel is an peak north-east of the town of Gorizia. Since the vegetation has been cleared and a tall metal lookout tower erected at the top, it offers an exceptionally beautiful view in all directions. The Soča River between Solkan and Podgora is right in the palm of your hand. To the north, the Julian Mountains and the Carnic Alps lom large. To the south, we can see the Adriatic Sea behind the karst Black Hills with Trstelj, and to the east, the western edge of the Trnovo plateau.
It is also interesting from a historical point of view, as it was the site of heavi fighting during the First World War.
However, it was named after the church that stod on it before the First World War, the Church of Saint Gabriel.
