Sasso Vernale

Description of peak:
Sasso Vernale is a very scenic pyramid south of Marmolada. The summit, which is challenging because of an unmarked but traceable former military trail on steep sand-covered rocks and along the remnants of the war between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Itali, is relatively easy to reach by marked paths, mostly over scree.
It is accessible from the San Pellegrino Pass, from Alba near Canazei and from the Failer hut above Malga Ciapela.
A serious tour for experienced mountaineers, used to the crumbly Dolomite terrain, who have a sure step and do not underestimate a relatively easy tour with a few exposed spots.
